Workshop 'Drawing with Words'
Inspired by Italo Calvino book The Invisible Cities (Le città invisibili), the proposed challenge was to create/imagine/design a space without drawing it. The simultaneous act of imagining and describing – drawing with words – while eluding the action of drawing as a thinking device, interferes with the fundamental creative process in architecture. Thus, the absence of drawingintroduces a new and broader range of possibilities, and consequently less expected results. Starting from the conversion of an idea and concept into written language, and then a drawn and three-dimensional representation of space (a scaled model), based on diverse interpretations, personal references, experience and imagination, we could discuss different concepts of translation, representation and communication in architecture.
