Porto: the city, the school, the masters | UABB 2015, Shenzhen

The exhibition proposes a reflection on the history and the future of a fragment of Porto, illustrating its identity, the marks generated by time and the potential that it still contains. Architecture as a way of reading / transforming history and the city. Articulating the City, the School and in between, its Masters, synthetically presents the most recent sediment in the construction of a structuring piece of city - the São Bento Station axis | Luís I Bridge - and the hypotheses of the future that have been central to the discussion at the School, in the City and among the Masters. This is an open space, a showcase for permanent urban discussion / transformation, which is played between history, identity, and the city of the future. The video exhibition features the several projects carried out for Avenida da Ponte (Avenida D. Afonso Henriques) since the beginning of the XX century, including both proposals by Álvaro Siza and FAUP students. The exhibition, funded by the Shenzhen Architecture and Urbanism Biennial, responds to the challenge “Re-living the City” with a reflection on an expectant space within the consolidated city and UNESCO heritage. The meeting of Álvaro Siza and FAUP students around design models illustrates the school’s design method and process, allowing a discussion on urban, programmatic and architectural integration issues in an area full of potential.

FAUP's participation is coordinated by Ana Neiva and Marco Ginoulhiac, and has the institutional support of the Porto City Council and Atelier A + E Design.
